DEBORAH HABER: Into the Deep
A true performing artist, singer songwriter Deborah Haber has a background in classical music, theater and painting. Her energetic and charismatic stage presence never fails to rouse live audiences, whether singing with a band or even solo a capella. Her powerful brassy voice and three octave range are guaranteed to get you moving in your seat.
Haber has been writing songs and poetry most of her life and had an original song performed for the first time at age five. Her diverse musical influences include Pat Benatar, Johnette Napoliatano, Patti Larkin and Ella Fitzgerald, with whom she has been compared. Her songs reflect this wide range blending elements of jazz, blues, pop and folk into a style all her own.
The lyrics on 'Into the Deep' are smart, surprising and often humorous. The first three songs describe the slow descent into the pitfalls of infidelity, culminating in the final realization: 'Damn It, I Love You'. The trio stands in contrast with the haunting spirituality of the final track 'Harvest'. Whether singing of sex or death, or even bringing a fresh new spin to Prince's 'When Doves Cry', the artist's heartfelt delivery is refreshing.
Haber lives and performs in the Boston area.
