JOE KEENAN: BAlance

The new collection bows to the many traditions that have influenced this island musician.
Tastefully produced , the album flows seamlessly. Contempory Folk tunes meld into Caribbean
melodies. A Dixie land number leads the listener to a raucous R and B tune which is followed by
a plaintive Celtic Ballad, there's even a Mexican mariachi style polka. All and all it is a refreshing and
long awaited effort by this well known Island Songster...

Joe Keenan has been performing his own songs in venues large and small since the 80's. He started out in Northampton, Mass. where his
Band of Crows gained local prominence. His 1st
studio album, Joe Keenan and the Band of Crows also garnered
some national attention
when it was favorably reviewed inmagazine.
Joe then went on a more solo path and was a finalist
The Kerriville Folk Festival New Folk Contest.
He cut his second album "Ancient Songs" with the help of Lloyd Donnelly,
former partner at Skyline
Studio in Manhattan, an album which again caught the attention
magazine, as well as Will Ackerman of Windham Hill Records who said...
"He manages to find his own eloquent voice
while not compromising the strengths of the traditions he draws upon.
We couldn't have come up with a more appropriate misson statement.
Joe has long sought to defy the pigeon holes that so many
artists are forced into, writing in a variety of styles and
drawing on a variety of traditions, Joe has played with his own bands and

in nightclubs from Newfoundland to The Caribbean, always playing
original material. The new album Balanceis as clear an example
of the varied styles of Joe's songwriting. From New FolkCarribean

has woven together a strong batch of songs with the help of an amazing group
of players:.
Through the summer of '04 Joe traipsed arround the East Coast,
from Brooklyn, NY, To Woodstock, NY.,Back to Manhattan, To his home Island of Martha's Vineyard,
and back to Northampton, Mass. recording with some of the
Music industrysmost sought after artists.
The result is a stunning group of songs that is sure to put Joe on the National
Music Map.

Some people in the music business think that an artist
should stick to one genre... which seems odd to me
seeing that the major periodocal for the entertainment
busines is called 'Variey'
>In his latest work Joe has once again defied those narrow
minded views.
