"Donna Lively is a storyteller's storyteller. She does all her homework to set the story perfectly in its time and place; she hones the action into an exquisite rise and fall, then spins out her tale! " - Mary Grace Kettner, Institute of Texas Cultures

Over the years, Donna has entertained with her stories audiences of all ages in many venues: To name a few: The 1996 Rising Star Concert, Tejas Festival; the 1999 Ghost Story Concert, Tejas Festival; 2004 Regional Concert National Storytelling Network Annual Conference.

Her background in theatre and as a research librarian has given her the tools to translate her love of folklore and the storytelling tradition into memorable and entertaining programs.

Her CD, "Onions in the Stew: Tales of the Scots-Irish" is a result of the discovery and examination of her own Scots-Irish roots. She calls the Scots-Irish the onions in the American stew.

The Scots-Irish do not seem to be a distinct ethnic entity because, like the chopped up onions in a stew, they have dissolved almost completely into the American character. Also, like the onion, the Scots-Irish character has a pungency and strength that can be a bit hard to take all on its own.

The stories are from the folklore of Scotland and Ireland and from her own family lore and they make great listening for family trips. The hour that kids spend listening to this CD is an hour that the parents don't have to entertain them. And they are entertaining for grown-ups too.
