PAT DAUGHERTY: Nothing can dull the light withinOn the way to writing songs for the followup to his Buffalo Puppy CD, The Dance of the Hours, Pat suddenly recorded an instrumental album, New York Electric Piano, that became a THING. Now comes Nothing Can Dull The Light Within, a collection of songs that are all over the map. And its a big country.
Surrender features the mesmerizing vocals of Sasha Lazard ,who appears courtesy of Om/Higher Octave Records. Pat and Sasha worked on the Pass The Torch series at Joe's Pub, where they premiered Surrender and Better Be to rapt audience approval. Also on that gig were some excellent NYC musicians who appear on this record; Jon Andrews, guitarist from Pisser, Michael Wemberly, revered for his work with Urban Bush Women, on drums, and Tim Givens of NYEP on bass. Aaron Comess from the Spin Doctors and NYEP contributes some slamming drums to trax 1,2,and 4. Tommy D Daugherty, West Coast producer deluxe, dropped the drums onto Track 12.
Check out Mary Sings the Songs That Make You Cry, based on an expression from Pat's Uncle Jon about his Aunt Mary's singing talents. On Shooting Star of Visionary Potential, Pat sings about the exploits of noise legend Les Decay, who just received his degree from Harvard, proof that they'll let anybody in. For those who want to rock there's Shining and Dream Planet, both propelled by Jon Andrews hefty guitar chops. For the poetic minded there's Shadow and Orphan Love Songs ( don't know where they belong ). And by the way , the beautiful cover art was found on a construction site and we'd love to know who the painter was.
