AGE OF DAZE: Age of Daze
Embracing the traditional elements that define rock and roll- energy, passion, excitement- New Brunswick, Canada’s Age of Daze are a ‘rock’ band in the truest sense. Choosing to avoid pretense and trends, this band’s singular commitment is to great songs, delivered in an uncompromising manner. Formed in 2003, AOD honed its skills on the club circuit of Canada’s east coast, playing anywhere and everywhere. Featuring Tim Morrison (Vocals/Guitar), Jamie Norrad (Guitar), Jon Price (Guitar), Matt McLaughlin (Bass), Derek McLaughlin (Drums), the band is made up of experienced players, each bringing a variety of influences to the table. These influences are evident, but do not provide the definition of AOD’s music. Unmistakably rock, but not falling within the narrow genres that exist within today’s popular music. This comes as a direct result of the band’s songwriting philosophy- no limitations, any great song can be an Age of Daze song.
In the spring of 2004, the band (originally known as Push) recorded a 5-song demo CD. This initial foray into recording yielded substantial airplay for 3 of the 5 tracks, and earned the band a top-fifty single on CFXY in Fredericton. This effort also laid the groundwork for a much more ambitious recording project completed in late 2005. Key to this project was the involvement of Our Lady Peace co-founder and guitarist Mike Turner, assuming the role as producer. The band, under the advisement of Turner, chose to focus on six songs for their debut commercial release. This would allow each song to be given the time and attention required to compete in today’s radio market, dominated by established major label acts. The end result is a dynamic, yet cohesive, offering that provides something of interest for all rock fans. It is music that seeks to meet the listener on their level; from fans of great rock and roll, to fans of great rock and roll.
Age of Daze is evidence that rock and roll is very much alive and well, and that it can originate from just about anywhere. Stay tuned… AOD is ready to make some noise!
